Nitrogen is found abundantly accounting for 78% of the earth’s atmosphere. It is used in various industrial for inerting where oxidation is not required. There are numerous methods for generating nitrogen for industrial applications. Mainly, three methods are used for the generation of nitrogen:
- Cryogenic Distillation
- Polymeric Membrane
- Pressure Swing Adsorption or PSA
We primarily use cryogenic distillation method for generating industrial nitrogen with high purity (up to 99.999%). Pure nitrogen is obtained by first separating it from air by cooling it until it is liquefied. It is then selectively distilled till we attain the desired purity. Cryogenic distillation is the best technology for generating nitrogen with high purity. We are leaders in manufacturing and fabricating nitrogen gas plants using the cryogenic technology for producing nitrogen.Polymeric membrane technology is also used for producing nitrogen. However, it can generate nitrogen with purity between 90-99.9%. This technology uses a permeable fiber which selectively separates the air depending on the speeds of the molecules of the constituents. The technology needs the feed air to be conditioned as the clearances the fiber have the size of a human hair.
Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology can produce nitrogen with purity between 99-99.999%. Our PSA nitrogen plant separates nitrogen gas a mixture of gases under pressure according to the species’ molecular characteristics and affinity for an adsorbent material. The technology works at at near-ambient temperatures and is very different from cryogenic distillation techniques of gas separation. PSA plant used specified adsorptive materials (e.g., zeolites, activated carbon, molecular sieves, etc.) are used as a trap adsorbing the target gas at high pressure.
